Local Favourites: Our Top Suffolk Walks’
With multiple nature reserves, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a nationally-acclaimed coastal path, Suffolk is a walker’s paradise. Our local team regularly enjoy spending their free time exploring Suffolk on foot and have compiled this list of walks in the region to share their favourites with you. If a particular walk strikes you, be sure to check out our holiday cottages in Suffolk to see if you can get right on the doorstep of it!
1The Sandlings Walk
This 58 mile walk from Ipswich to Southwold is one of the world’s only routes through protected heathland. Since the 1930s, most of the sandy heathland that once defined the area has disappeared, but what is left of this beautiful landscape can be seen on this walk. Although it would be near impossible to walk the whole thing, picking up the trail and walking a few miles of it is a great way to see this part of Suffolk and our holiday cottages along the route are perfectly situated for you to explore the Sandlings in your own way.

Carlton Marshes
Located on Oulton Broad, the Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve is one for animal lovers. With a huge National Lottery investment having just been made, Carlton Marshes is shining like never before. The water of the broads meets the greenery of the Suffolk countryside here, providing you with spectacular views. A variety of birds, 28 species of dragonfly, insects, water voles and barn owls are just some examples of the life found here, proving that Carlton Marshes is a wildlife spotter’s paradise. The area is also wheelchair and pushchair friendly, has a cafe on site and even boasts free parking - what’s not to love?
