Whether you’re looking for that pub to call your local for the week, a posh bistro for date night, or a family cafe to feed the group, Sussex has its fair share of varied and excellent food and drink on offer. With some help from our local team, we’ve collected this list of some of Sussex's best pubs, restaurants and cafes for you to try out.
World’s End, Brighton
As England’s most vegan-friendly city, Brighton is home to a wealth of plant-based restaurants that are experimental, trendy and bound to offer a unique dining experience. One such place is the World’s End Bar, which is not only a vegan burger joint but also an arcade filled with retro arcade games, board games and much more. Serving up food from Vegan Noms and lots of independent beers, as well as shakes and desserts, World’s End is the perfect option for those staying in one of our Brighton Cottages who are looking for a fun-filled evening out.
Moshimo, Brighton
This sushi restaurant in the heart of Brighton is a local favourite and serves a range of sushi, bento and plant-based options from sustainable sources. In fact, Moshimo’s Fishlove campaign is one of the world’s most successful campaigns to end overfishing, meaning that whether you choose traditional fish-based sushi or a vegan option, you know that your meal has come from an ethical source. Aside from their commitment to improving sustainability, the food here is just generally delicious and the staff are super friendly.
The Dolphin, Eastbourne
If you’re looking for fresh and tasty pub grub with a twist, head to The Dolphin in Eastbourne. At the heart of Little Chelsea, this pub has a touch of class, with elegant interiors and an extensive drinks menu which includes their famous Gin Bowls. The majority of their menu is also vegan or vegetarian and there’s plenty of gluten-free options, but meat-eaters will be happy to hear that there are still plenty of meaty options, including the mouth-watering House Burger. A great option for couples, but equally family-friendly, do be sure to visit The Dolphin if you’re staying in one of our Eastbourne Holiday Cottages.
The Bluebird Cafe, Ferring
Ferring is just a short way west of Goring-on-Sea and is a popular coastal spot for families. The beach is also dog-friendly, making it the ideal spot for a sea walk and there’s no better place to fuel up for said walk than The Bluebird Cafe. Located right on the beachfront, the Bluebird serves up hearty breakfasts, lunchtime classics and everyone’s favourite - fish and chips. A great place to rest your legs and take in a sea view, make a visit to The Bluebird Cafe as part of your trip to Ferring.
The Royal Oak, Poynings
Set in the South Downs National Park, The Royal Oak is a lovely, traditional country pub serving up classic pub dishes, such as bangers and mash, pie and fish and chips - perfect for those who love a hearty British meal. However, their menu also includes a range of veggie and vegan options, daily specials, a very impressive sandwich menu and a dedicated ‘little ones’ menu, so there's bound to be something for everyone in your holiday party. So get cosy and fill your boots by dining out at The Royal Oak.
