The walk into Honiton from Combe Raleigh takes around half an hour along Clapper Lane, which takes you to Honiton’s historic High Street. The High Street has been in action as a shopper’s paradise for hundreds of years. But this is just a part of the street’s history, which has been the site of Civil War action, survived the Plague and multiple floods and fires and hosted various famous faces, including Charles Dickens. Nowadays, Honiton is known as the Antiques Capital of the South West and there are many antique shops and galleries on High Street, as well as plenty of cafes and places to grab a bite to eat. 

The East Devon coast is the closest to Combe Raleigh and the towns of Branscombe, Beer, Sidmouth and Seaton are just a short drive away. This stretch of coastline is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast and its ancient cliffs and rock structures are truly a sight to behold. The orange cliffs on Branscombe beach hold thousands of prehistoric secrets and a day can easily be spent scouring the beach for fossils and stones. If archaeological exploration is not your thing, then you may find the food on offer in Branscombe more appealing. Head to the Masons Arms for proper pub grub, or the Sea Shanty Beach Cafe for lunch with a view. 

Sidmouth is a Regency seaside town and still shines in all the splendour of the era it was built in. The town is bustling with shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes, as well as being home to the Manor Pavilion Theatre, a golf club and a gorgeous park, Connaught Gardens. The beach is dog-friendly all year round in designated zones and the town sits on the South West Coast Path, making it the ideal place to take your canine companion for a brisk seaside walk.
