Rainy Day Activities in Dorset

Although we may all like to kid ourselves into thinking that the British summertime will be sunshine and blue sky every day unfortunately this is not always the case, thankfully Dorset is full of great things to do should you encounter a rainy day.

Tower Park -Tower Park is home to medley of different restaurants, entertainment and activities. Including a cinema, bowling, an indoor waterpark and a soft play area, a great place for a rainy day if you have children that need entertaining.

Dorset Water Park - if it’s raining why not do something that is going to get you wet anyway. Dorset waterpark is an inflatable park set across 2 lakes overlooking Corfe Castle. The inflatable course includes slides, a trampoline, jumps and hurdles and everything that would make for a great day out.

Swanage Railway- Swanage railway is a 12 mile return trip between Corfe Castle and Swanage that takes you through the beautiful Purbeck Countryside.  In 2017 Swanage Railway reopened the line between Corfe and Wareham meaning that it is now possible to go by train from Swanage to London!

The Tank museum- This incredible museum has a collection of over 300 vehicles and is regarded as the best of its kind. With plenty of special events going on throughout the year the tank museum is the perfect place for a rainy day adventure.

Dorchester Museums- Dorchester has a number of fantastic museums, including the Dorset County Museum, the Dinosaur Museum and the Tutankhamun museum as well as many others. You can purchase a gold saver pass that will get you 5 entries for the price of 2 to some of Dorchester’s best museums!

Grab some wellies- Why not brave the drizzle and go on a lovely walk around some of the best places in Dorset, as part of the Jurassic coast there are plenty of pathways and coastal walks to undertake with some fantastic views, personal favourites would include walking to Old Harry Rocks, Around Durlston Country Park, Down towards Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, on the beaches of West Bay and towards Abbotsbury Castle. Why not go fossil hunting? Dorset is part of the Jurassic coast so fossils are not too hard to find!

Brewery tours- for a more adult rainy day activity why not try a brewery tour. Dorset is home to many fantastic brands of Beers, ciders and Ales such as Hall & Woodhouse and Palmers. Why not take a look around and see for yourself every stage of the brewing process. 

Dinosaurland Fossil Museum- Learn more about the Jurassic coast and its history by visiting this fossil museum in Lyme Regis. With a spectacular collection of 200 million year old marine fossils this museum is perfect for people of all ages.
