Holiday Cottages in Melrose
Nestled underneath the Eildon Hills lies the beautiful Scottish Borders town of Melrose. Known for its stunning natural landscape, Melrose is perfect for a walking holiday, but also offers much in the way of sightseeing, shopping and other activities to suit all holiday tastes. We have a selection of accommodation in the area and across the Scottish Borders, including in the nearby towns of Kelso and Jedburgh. Â
One of Melrose’s top attractions is Melrose Abbey, which is also the resting place of Robert the Bruce. The Abbey has been a part of Melrose life since 1136 and is a truly magnificent piece of historic architecture with amazing grounds. Visitors are also permitted to visit the Abbey Church, although we do recommend you check to see if restorative work is happening on the church before you visit.Â
If you enjoy a well-kept garden and National Trust site then you’ll be pleased to hear that Melrose has two National Trust Scotland Gardens. The first is Harmony Gardens, which has beautiful views over the abbey and also hosts an annual literary festival in June that bookworms visiting Melrose should definitely attend. Priorwood is the other local garden and is most famous for its apple orchard.Â
We cannot talk about Melrose without talking about the Eildon Hills of course. We recommend driving up and parking near the crematory before your start the circular walking route up to the peak of Eildon Hill. The walk takes around 3 hours to complete and we highly recommend making sure you have plenty of time to enjoy the stunning views from atop the peak. Â
Overall, Melrose is the perfect holiday destination for those who are looking for a restful break in a beautiful location, and we have a variety of holiday homes nearby to make your Melrose break perfect.
