Cottages in Wells-next-the-Sea
Situated between the impressive beach at Holkham on one side and Blakeney Point on the other, Wells-next-the-Sea is a traditional Norfolk seaside town.
Wells is an ancient and still functioning port with a small but active fishing fleet. The picturesque harbour is sheltered from the north sea by a tidal estuary with the town itself wending its way up the hill towards the Buttlands at the top, a peaceful green surrounded by lime trees and classic Georgian and Victorian houses.
Genuine and unspoilt, Wells is proud of its heritage and community and the town is thriving with long standing and independent businesses all located along the Staithe which is the main street that leads up from the Quay.
The Quayside is always a hive of activity with plenty of places to sit and eat and watch the boats come and go. A walk after lunch will take you a mile down to the sea or for those that would prefer a ride, there is a miniature steam train that will take the strain. The beach is breathtaking and very atmospheric, with pretty beach huts on an enormous expanse of sand.
At the top of the town following a walk up Staithe Street, the Buttlands are perfect for a stroll under the lime trees and there are a couple of excellent pubs as well. Even in the height of summer, Wells maintains a calm and unrushed feel about it.
The town is also perfectly located to explore the coastline in either direction, the famous salt marshes at Blakeney or the breathtaking three miles of open beach at Holkham just around the headland. Holkham Hall is nearby and Sandringham House about half an hours’ drive away.
We have a selection of pretty cottages and more contemporary properties both in Wells and the surrounding area, you can even add a beach hut to your holiday to make those long days on the beach quite perfect. Speak to one of our friendly team on 0333 2020899.
