Newby Bridge is a hamlet located by the River Leven at the southern tip of Windermere, with a variety of quality restaurant and pubs nearby. Just a stone’s throw away is The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, climb aboard the train at Haverthwaite and enjoy the stunning views as you travel to up to Lakeside Pier. Here is the Lakes Aquarium, where you can discover the wildlife and freshwater creatures that can be found in these waters. From Lakeside you can travel by ferry to Fell Foot park or take a Windermere Cruise over to Windermere, Bowness or Ambleside and enjoy the spectacular scenery surrounding the Lake.

Alternatively, Fell foot park is just a short 3-minute drive from Newby Bridge. Positioned by the River Leven at the southern tip of Lake Windermere, this is a fantastic family-friendly spot. Its spacious lawns provide the ideal setting for a family picnic or barbeque and perhaps a game of rounders or football. The park slopes down to the side of the Lake offering with stunning mountain views opposite. Fell Foot is a great place to kayak or canoe, alternatively, you can hire a four-seater rowing boat from the Boathouse Café allowing you to really explore the lake. From Fell Foot, you can take the ferry across to Lakeside, where you’ll find the Lakes Aquarium, access to Bowness via Windermere Lake Cruises and Haverthwaite via the Lakeside Railway.

Famous for its sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel is only 8.5 miles from Newby Bridge. This delightful village was established around the ancient Priory back in the 12th century, which is a must-see destination for all visitors to Cartmel. Opposite the Priory is Unsworth Yard, a beautiful courtyard that is home to shops selling several of the village’s many fine wines, local cheeses and artisan bread, with the addition of its own micro-brewery and wine snug. The village is home to several pubs and restaurants that can be found surrounding the historic market square, including the famous L’Enclume restaurant, boasting two Michelin stars and five AA Rosettes, leaving you spoilt for choice. There are a variety of interesting vintage and gift shops, including the Cartmel Village Shop, home to the sticky toffee pudding the village is so famous for. The Cartmel Racetrack is one of the smallest in the country, holding meets throughout the summer season and the annual Cartmel Show.

Just 2 minutes down the road from Newby Bridge, in Backbarrow, is The Lakeland Motor Museum, with its own dedicated tribute to the racing career of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell and full-sized replicas of the Blue Bird car and Blue Bird boat.
