Mentioned in the Domesday Book, Beaminster is truly one of Dorset’s hidden gems. Nestled in the valley between Bridport and Crewkerne, Beaminster is a great place for that “get away from it all” holiday.
With great walks along the river and surrounding countryside, over 200 listed buildings and some fascinating visitor attractions; you’ll always have something to do or somewhere to go to unwind.
What is there to do in Beaminster?
Mapperton House and Gardens are probably Beaminster’s best known attraction. The Tudor Manor house and award-winning gardens make this a great day out. You can also try some of England’s best sparkling wine at Furleigh Estate, or how about a llama trek close by?
Broadwindsor Craft Design Centre is based in Beaminster. You can enjoy local art and crafts, browse the many stalls and even take part in craft courses and workshops.Beaminster holds a fantastic Festival of Music and Arts over the summer; classical and jazz music, literature, local artist exhibitions and sculptors make a visit at this time of year an absolute must.
A short drive and you can find yourself in Bridport, famous for its Hat Festival and Food Festival. There’s also the Wednesday and Saturday markets (a secret that Dorset folk are reluctant to share because there’s so much to browse!). Just a mile or so South and you’re in West Bay (aka Broadchurch!). Head East and you’re in the delightful County Town of Dorchester or West to discover the historic town of Lyme Regis.
