Visiting Bantham Â
Bantham Beach is known as one of the best beaches for surfing in South Devon. The waves off the beach are reasonably gentle when compared with the large swells on the nearby River Avon, but this makes them perfect for beginners to try their hand to a new sport. The beach is also a Blue Flag beach, meaning it has reached a high standard of cleanliness, and its soft, sandy shores are perfect for lying back and having a snooze in the sun. Â
Across from Bantham Beach is Burgh Island, made famous by none other than author Agatha Christie. The island was the inspiration behind many locations in her crime novels and Christie fans staying in the area should definitely take a day trip to the island, or even book onto one of the hotel on the island’s murder mystery nights. Â
Thurlestone is a nearby village that is just over four miles away, making it the perfect place to walk to and from during the day, or quickly drive to. If you are walking, the route along the South West Coast Path is particularly scenic. Thurlestone has to beaches for you to explore and a lovely local pub should you be in need of refreshment. Â
With stunning beaches and coastal walks, great food and South Devon on your doorstep, what’s not to love about Bantham? Â
