Location
Stabal y Nant holiday cottage is located on a working farm set within the rolling hills of Mid Wales. The traditional market town of Welshpool with its canal, shops, restaurants and pubs is only 3 miles away whilst the nearest village of Guilsfield is also 3 miles and has 2 pubs. The farm has streams and woodlands in abundance and sustains rich and varied bird-life.
Enjoy fine walks around the farm and surrounding countryside and take full advantage of the fact that Glyndwr's Way National Trail passes within 500 metres of the cottage. Ride the steam train from Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool or take the short drive to the stunning lake Vyrnwy, where you can try your hand at watersports and cycling or enjoy a leisurely walk and good lunch. Golf and fishing are popular in this part of Wales, too, with plenty of golf courses and a coarse fishing lake. The Flash Centre in Welshpool has a large swimming pool with twisting slide, rapids ride, spa pool and is also great for young children with paddling and beach areas.
If you’re after castles and culture, Mid Wales has both in spades. Nearby Dolforwyn Castle, for example, was the last castle to be built by Llewelwyn (the Last Prince of Wales), between 1273 and 1277. Powis Castle, which started life as a medieval fortress, is a must, especially for its beautiful gardens and collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and tapestries.
Portmeirion and the Mountains of Snowdonia offer great days out whilst pony treking and quad trekking are available locally. Other popular attractions include Llanrhaeadr Waterfall (the tallest in the UK), the Centre for Alternative Technology and King Arthur's Labyrinth.
Among the recommended restaurants within 5 miles of the cottage, you have Kings Head in Guilsfield (3 miles), Royal Oak and Cornstore in Welshpool (4 miles) and The Green Dragon in Buttington (5 miles).
