Cottages in St Merryn
As you drive into St Merryn, you’ll notice signs saying ‘Seven Bays for Seven Days’. This motto refers to the seven bays that surround St Merryn and their popularity as a holiday destination. With such an obvious motto and clearly great access to the coast, you’ll instantly see why so many choose to spend their precious time here. We have quite substantial range of holiday cottages in St Merryn, all of them just a short distance from the beach, so a cracking sea view is definitely on the cards. We also have dog-friendly and luxury cottages in the area, as well as a number of homes located in the St Merryn Holiday Village, which has a tennis court.
The Seven Bays around St Merryn refers to Porthconan Bay, Treyarnon, Constantine Bay, Booby’s Bay, Mother Ivey’s Bay, Harlyn Bay and Trevone Bay. There is a path linking all seven bays and none are further than 3.5 miles away from St Merryn, making walking a popular pastime of the visitors and locals alike. The path combines stretches of beach, with sand dunes and clifftops, making sure your journey around the Seven Bays is never dull. Trevose Head is the central landmark along the Seven Bays and from here you can see the entirety of the North Cornwall coastline. We have cottages dotted across the Seven Bays and you can also explore our full range of coastal cottages in Cornwall to see what this maritime region has to offer.
Each beach has something different to offer. Constantine Bay is one of the best spots on the North Coast for surfing and watersports, while also being home to a network of fascinating rockpools. Constantine Bay is also dog-friendly all year round, as are Mother Ivey’s Bay, Booby’s Bay and Harlyn Bay. Crabbing is another popular pastime, particularly with children, on these beaches and many shops sell crabbing buckets and lines for you to purchase. What many don’t realise about this stretch of coastline, however, is that it is home to many dolphin pods. Three species of dolphin reside off this patch of the North Cornwall coast: Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins and Risso’s Dolphins, albeit these are far more elusive than their cousins. Padstow Sea Life Safari Tours (around two hours in length) are very popular and you’re almost guaranteed to see dolphins on a trip with them, so why not take a trip down the road to Padstow and try spot some dolphins?
There are also a number of local festivities during the summer in St Merryn and the village is always a buzz with activity. A funfair, carnival, steam traction rally and skittles tournaments all occur during the summer months, where locals and visitors can all join in together and enjoy the warm weather and summer fun. Winter is also a busy time in St Merryn and if you opt for a festive break, you can expect to see a range of indoor events on offer, including annual pool and darts competitions.
St Merryn truly is the definition of Cornish charm and a break here is bound to put a smile on your face and leave you with some fantastic memories.
