Cottages near Saunton Sands
Being the unofficial pilgrimage site of any beach and surf searching holidaymaker, North Devon is not short of visitors, and at times it can feel a little overcrowded. But amongst this chaos sits a seemingly empty stretch of sand. . .
Part of the North Devon UNESCO biosphere reserve, Saunton Sands is a three and a half mile stretch of golden beach. West facing and jutting out into the Atlantic, this is an attractive destination for Long Board surfers, and beach bathers alike and there is so much beach to chose from the two users rub together merrily.
If you are less of a beach bum and prefer a long walk either over stretches of flat sand or across undulating sand dunes, the Braunton Burrows which back onto Saunton Sands is the ideal stomping ground. The largest sand dune site in the UK and home to many rare and unique species of plants and animals this immense 3,000 acre area offers some undeniably fabulous walking and joins up with the South West path. Don't leave your trusted companion - dogs are always welcome.
Not just all for leisure and pleasure this beach has two faces and functions. A couple of times a year, the sands are taken over by the military and the RAF practice their aircraft beach landings. Quite the spectacle if you are lucky enough to witness it.
We have a huge selection North Devon properties in the surrounding area and we would love to find you the perfect one so you can experience this fantastic beach yourself. Just call us on 0333 2020 899 to help you find the ideal choice.
