Top things to do in Brighton when it is raining!

In the summer months Brighton is a hugely popular seaside city and with tourists flocking to the beach it is not hard to see why it has been voted one of the top beach resorts in the UK. When the sun is shining, Brighton seafront is a hive of activity and it certainly puts you in the holiday mood! However, it cannot always be guaranteed that the sun will be shining throughout summer (although we hope it does)! Therefore, it is wise to have a backup list of things to do in Brighton when the weather isn’t so great. Here is a short list of indoor attractions in Brighton that will keep all ages entertained!

The Royal Pavilion Palace

Although the exterior of the Royal Pavilion Palace does not excite as much in the rain, the interior will certainly still WOW you! Originally built in the early 19th century for the decadent George Prince of Wales, the Palace is an exciting mix of oriental architecture set in the heart of Brighton. You can wander around its great rooms whilst learning about the history of this iconic building. A must see in Brighton no matter what the weather.

Brighton Sea Life Centre

If you can’t beat them, join them! When the weather outside is wet and grey, why not spend your day exploring the underwater world of the Sea Life Centre? Famed for being the oldest operating aquarium in the world, the Sea Life Centre is a stunning Victorian building that houses a large variety of underwater creatures. Venture beneath the waves and gaze up at the sharks from the underwater tunnel or soar on top of the water in the glass bottomed boat. Highly recommended for all of the family!

The Odeon/Cineworld/Duke of York’s Cinemas

It may be that you choose to go to the cinema to see a film that has just been released. With three cinemas in Brighton to choose from – all with nearby car parking – your rainy day will be brightened by the big screen! First opened in 1910, The Duke of York’s Cinema is a special choice as it is acclaimed for being the oldest cinema in continuous use in Britain. With only one screen the cinema feels more personal than most cinemas and it offers a charming day out.

Bowlplex Bowling

Fun for all of the family – Bowlplex is a bowling alley that will keep you entertained for hours. Located down Brighton Marina, it is easily accessible by car and bus and will ensure that your rainy day is not a wash out! There is also a games arcade, a bar, and a restaurant there.

Brighton Toy and Model Museum

Located under the Victorian arches that support Brighton station you will find the magical world of the Brighton Toy and Model Museum. Housing over 10,000 toys dating from the 18th century, this museum is a fantastic way to spend your day – you might even find some more recent toys that bring back some memories!

Booth Museum of Natural History

Located within a Grade II listed building is this fantastic museum that houses an impressive collection of birds, butterflies, fossils and bones. Founded in 1874 by Victorian naturalist and collector Edward Thomas Booth, the Booth Museum is a great place to visit on a rainy day. Free admission for members of the Royal Pavilion and Museums Foundation is a bonus!
