Bustling Brighton is a hive of activity all year round and there are always plenty of weird and wonderful events taking place. Whilst we all enjoy the finer things in life, holidaying in cities can be expensive. However, if you are visiting on a budget there are plenty of things to see and do for FREE! To help you out, we have come up with this list of the top 10 things to do in Brighton where you don’t have to spend a penny (apart from buying an ice cream of course!).
Brighton Beaches
Brighton is infamous for its stretches of pebbled beaches and on a hot sunny day, there is no better place to be. Swim, sunbathe and enjoy the atmosphere … there’s nowhere quite like it!
South Downs National Park
Nestled between the sea and the South Downs National Park, Brighton has the best of both the rural and seaside worlds. Spend a day walking over the rolling hills of the Downs, perfect for holidaying with pets and children.
Explore Rottingdean
Get out of the city for a day and explore the historic village of Rottingdean - just 4 miles east along the coast from Brighton. Here you can chill out on the quieter beaches and visit the iconic Windmill and duck pond.
Paddle Round The Pier
From 1st - 2nd July join in the world’s biggest FREE beach and water festival in Brighton. With large numbers of land and sea events taking place, this is an annual event that should not be missed!
Undercliff Walks
Another one for visitors with furry friends is taking a walk along the undercliff. Stretching all the way from Brighton to sunny Saltdean you can walk, run, and cycle with spectacular views of the sea.
Devil’s Dyke
Located on the top of a large hill, Devil’s Dyke offers sensational panoramic views of the Sussex countryside and often plenty of hang gliders to watch. This is the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by.

With never a dull moment, the North Laines area of Brighton is definitely somewhere you should visit. There is so much to see … even if it is just window shopping!
Brighton Fishing Museum
Uncover the rich history of Brighton’s fishing industry at this fantastic little museum located at the Fishing Quarter on Brighton seafront. There are also plenty of cool arts and crafts to see as well.
Brighton Pier
No trip to Brighton would be complete without visiting our iconic Pier. Although you will need your pennies for the amusements and rides, the view from the end of the Pier is a must see. Just make sure you keep your eye out for those pesky seagulls!
Pavilion Gardens
Relax in the ambient gardens of this striking palace that looks like it has been transported from India. The gardens are the perfect place for picnics and listening to the music of local buskers.
