Sussex Wildlife Trust recently announced it has won a £47,200 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for its Discover Rye Harbour Project. A new Discovery Centre will be built at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve to offer a year-round programme of exhibitions, events, and education opportunities.
Developed with the Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, the aim of the project is to improve people’s engagement in, and conservation of, the unique natural environment and wider heritage of the nature reserve. It will also help improve existing habitats for the 4,500 species of plants and animals who thrive there.
A visit to Rye Harbour is a wonderful way to discover a whole range of coastal habitats, from shingle to saltmarsh and to explore the military history there, or simply to walk beside the sea. There are five birdwatch hides accessible to wheelchairs and mobility scooters in the Nature Reserve. Rye Harbour is just a few minutes from the bustling Cinque Port of Rye with its many unique, independent shops, antique shops, restaurants and Kino cinema.
One of our properties, Stone’s Throw, which sleeps two, is at the entrance to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and we have a great selection of properties from which to explore the Sussex coastline. Click here to find out more about these properties.
