Pumsaint, in the valley of River Cothi can lay claim to being within sight of ancient gold mines and Roman settlements. Now the area, part of the Dolaucothi estate, lends itself to pony trekking and fishing with guided tours of the gold mines organised through the National Trust. Further afield, Lampeter is a small and bustling market town in the heart of the countryside, this little place is the oldest degree awarding institution in Wales. Not only a town for young elite minds, it was once an important centre for agriculture and drovers. Lampeter now thrives on tourism, though has never failed to retain its historical charms with cattle markets, antique auctions, horse fairs and food festivals still littering the calendar, which are great attractions for all those who make a visit to this pretty market town.
