My experience of SUP yoga

I practice yoga regularly, it’s good for the body and the mind. Last weekend I thought I would take my practice to the next level and try stand up paddle board yoga or SUP Yoga as it is generally referred as.
I started quite nervous, I had never been on a paddle board before and the water was quite choppy. The class began with a paddle around the lake starting on my knees before braving it to standing. I found myself getting a complete workout of body and mind before the yoga even started! Navigating is not my strong point and with a paddle for steering together with a moving current, my attempt to reach the board dock was entertaining. The class was varied in ability from beginners through to yoga teachers. Our instructor began by saying " today you are all toddlers again learning yoga on the water, so let go of perfection and enjoy every moment."
The experience is amazing; I felt every muscle engage trying to keep my body balanced ensuring my weight was spread evenly across the board. Relaxing and softening my knees in the poses allowed me more stability as the water moved beneath my board. The class was really enjoyable and I am proud to say I didn’t fall in – watch this space, my second class is already booked!
