With its diverse landscape, two National Parks, a dramatic coastline, and many lovely towns and villages, Yorkshire is one of the most popular destinations for holidaymakers in the UK. Doris Cottage in Whitby is an old fisherman’s cottage that stands on one of the characteristic steep streets that lead down to the seafront in this historic town. Inside you’ll find a cosy holiday home that is full of character.  Original features such as wooden beams and floorboards, a traditional range fireplace and exposed brickwork are a reminder of this cottage’s hardworking past. Whitby itself has the advantages of being on the coast and within minutes of the North Yorkshire & Cleveland Heritage Coast and the North York Moors National Park.

The North York Moors is a charming place in itself, and this is reflected in this converted old stable. A cottage that sleeps four, its position just 1.5 miles from the small village of Lealholm, means that while you get some breathtaking views over Fryup Dale and the moors, you also benefit from having local amenities close at hand. For lovers of old features, Stable Cottage has exposed beam ceilings and an original hayrack, adding to its charm.

One of the most charming holiday cottages in Yorkshire is Low Sanfitt Cottage. On the inside it has everything you’d expect from a traditional cottage: the ceilings are crossed with exposed beams while the floor is flagged, and a stone fireplace makes an excellent focal point to the living room. Outside you’ll find acres of open farmland, including the owner’s orchard, and a short distance away is a sparkling stream making its way down to the River Wharfe. Further afield you can find the Nidderdale AONB to the east, the Forest of Bowland to the west and the Yorkshire Dales to the north.

The large proportion of holiday cottages in Yorkshire have history, but The Old Bakehouse Cottage in Robin Hood’s Bay has more than most, having been built in 1639 when King Charles I was on the throne and before the Great Fire of London ravaged the capital.
