Carus Green, located in the historic market town of Kendal, has quickly become the Lake District’s premier golf and leisure destination, just a stone’s throw from the Lake District National Park. Carus is a unique development that combines golfing, luxury accommodation and relaxed dining.
The challenging 18-hole parkland course offers stunning views over the Lakeland fells and has three rivers that meander through the course – The Kent, The Mint and The Sprint. Carus also has something for non-golfers, with an award-winning Clubhouse which offers an array of eateries and bars including the Grill restaurant and Lounge Bar. Kendal
Kendal is well-known as the gateway to the Lake District, just 8 miles from Windermere. Lying in the valley of the River Kent, surrounded by beautiful countryside, this is the perfect base to explore the National Park and Kendal itself.
Wonder down Kendal high street to discover the famous 18th-century ‘yards’ that once formed the network of this trade town. Take a short walk up Castle Hill to explore Kendal Castle, built in the 1200’s, much of the castle has now fallen to ruin but some of the castle walls and towers remain. There are spectacular views from the top of Castle Hill over Kendal and the Lakeland Fells beyond, a great place to spend a sunny afternoon watching the world go by.
The Brewery Arts Centre is the central hub of events in this market town, hosting everything from live music, theatre, films, ballet and festivals including an array of eateries and bars. The Vats Bar offers the Brewery’s superb pizzas along with a wide variety of local and guest beers, as well as a bustling, friendly atmosphere to enjoy the evening.
Just a short journey from Kendal you can immerse yourself into the heritage of Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall, both of which are steeped in history and have a wealth of beautiful gardens to explore, with Levens Hall being home to the oldest and most extensive topiary garden in the world.
The Lyth Valley is renowned for its orchards of Damsons which grow in the Lyth and Winster valleys, south-west of Kendal, becoming snow white with beautiful blossom during Spring. The fruit ripens in the Autumn and is used in a variety of local produce, including jams, puddings and gin.
